Hi, my name is Sohyeon. Today is the 17th of October, 2023. Nice to meet you. I was born and raised up in Seoul, South Korea.
It is pretty far from here in Leipzig. With flight, it takes 13-14 hours in general, and sometimes you have to fly over the North Arctic.
I speak Korean(가나다라마바사) as my mother language, English(ABCDEFG), as you see, and sometimes German(ÄÖÜß). These days I'm learning Ukrainian(Де гроші).

I was a kid who was very sensitive about smell. I thought that I had a superpower that I could smell something and guess where or when it came from, which was actually not so much superpower or precise.          I liked playing piano a lot and writing some short stories. I drew or made some small(or big) pieces of sculpture and lots of origami. Somehow, I realised that I enjoyed more when I made something series and archives that were already existing by re-ordering. Once, when I was around 12 yrs old, I realised that I wanted to be a composer, I realised that I liked editing the notes and changing chords more than creating the notes.
After a few years of struggling with refining or defining my interest, one day, I talked to my family, yes, I wanna do art!...
My family wasn't that surprised. I decided to go to an art university, I was wondering what kind of "thing" I wanted to do. You know, okay.. well.. what is art? what does it mean for teenagers?
Then I realised that I liked to read and edit in my own order from a long time ago and thought that it could be a way of art. Anyhow, I checked the programs of the graphic design department of an art university and they looked perfect. They seemed very vague with the concept of "various media/materials", which sounded the same level as my ambiguity to interest, so I liked it. But also, there was one thing clear, which was related to "letters and text"(editorial design or typography whatever, at that time I didn't know about this that well)

I started studying visual communication design at Hongik University in 2012.
At that time, I tried kinda various things.. If I think about myself right now, those were somehow very different from my current interests. I realised a kind of difference between what I want to make and what I want to just enjoy. During my study, I was in a photo club. Also, in a music band.
In 2015, I moved to Hamburg for an exchange semester at AMD, and learned about spatial concepts and architecture. (just a bit) I realised that I was into watching architecture and just the theory. But at that time, I could have time to think about how a book can be a space. This sounds a bit random but I need more time to explain this. If you are interested in listening to my thoughts, just email me.
Also, I realised that I could draw my life in Germany somehow.
I went back to Seoul and graduated in 2017. After that, I worked as a freelancer and was sometimes hired by Grayoval, Double-D studio, and etc..

In January 2019, I moved to Berlin and then learned how to speak German, also explored the city for living not for traveling, but I realised that actually feeling of traveling is great and sometimes it's better than feeling of getting used to it or being local. I moved to Leipzig in April 2020, which was kinda crazy period. I mean.. yes. It was the pandemic. I started studying at HGB with my laptop and saw people via Webex window. During this time, my world was full of squares. Only squares.
I realised that I like collegues and like to meet and work with people.                                                             So... yes.. I am doing graphic design, because I realised that I like the activity of graphic design. I deal with printed matter
and website. I work as a graphic designer for a living, but at the same time, I do artistic practices, for just itself.
Sometimes I work on my own, sometimes with other colleagues, and sometimes as a member of a collective. (After New Order)

Nowadays, my current interests are in making children's books and building a narrow cast (or micro) radio station.
